It’s a baby!

I have a daughter. She was unceremoniously ripped from my wife’s body by emergency c-section on September 17th, and she looked pretty pissed about it. She weighed in at 7lb 13oz and was 20 inches in length. Judging by the health of her lungs and the dramatic trembling of her lower lip, she will be a formidable opera singer. But a damn pretty one.

Proud daddy.

As a special note, I would like to thank INXS from the bottom of my heart for writing this song, which seems to be some kind of magic lullaby.

  1. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! *jumping up and down with excitement*
Gotta love a little girl who knows what she wants (and how to get it from her smitten daddy!) πŸ˜‰ Wishing your wife well with her recovery.

  2. awwww, congrats to mom, dad, baby and her brother. wishing you all the best!

  4. Wonderful news. Congratulations to all of you. I hear you on the song. R’s #1 soothing song (sung by me) would be “Heard it Through the Grapevine” by Marvin Gaye (Steve: “PLEASE learn more than the first verse, honey”), followed by the entire Jimmy Buffett “Songs you Know By Heart” CD (which I now know by heart and still can’t listen to thanks to overexposure).

Now I’ll share what my very wise Dad told me: You have five years, during which this little girl will prefer you to everyone else. She’ll like being around others, yes, but will singularly want to be with you two. Don’t wish this time away, even when it’s annoying, and don’t rush it. Savor every last temper-tantrum poopy-diaper filled minute. It ends. When she’s 5 or 6, she will begin her process of leaving you, and it will crush your heart just a bit. You will from then on compete with friends and activities and school and the rest of the world for her attention, and you’ll often lose. So relish every minute of now.

    Best,

    Regina
