I am sure I should have an opinion

But I really have no idea where I stand on this.

TV Sinks to New Low With Kidney Donor Show

Moral outrage? I do not know… maybe it is good that organ donation is appearing on prime time TV. Dare I say the idea seems to have more substance than the ubiquitous Big Brother? Maybe all (living) organ donors should get the opportunity to decide who benefits from their sacrifice.

There is an adoption parallel to be drawn here, of course. Is the opportunity to choose the parents your child will grow up with a good thing, or is it coercive? What if you do not want to go ahead with donating your kidney at all, but you feel pressured because you have seen the plight of the person whose life it would save? Am I being melodramatic? Hell yeah… adopting a baby never saved anyone’s life, I suspect. Unless the kid dragged them from a burning building some years later or something…

Brad, the Stalker

This morning, I needed to buy gas. I pulled in behind a cute blonde in a Honda Civic. She smiled at me, so I smiled back. I was raised to be polite, after all. Done with the pumping, she made a detour for milk, which put me ahead of her in the queue for the cashier. Given my car was parked behind hers, I told her “go ahead of me, I will not be going anywhere until you do”. The look she gave me was somewhere between puzzled-deer-in-the-headlights, and I-am-going-to-call-the-cops. She just stared at me, until I realized she thought I was a stalker or something, and I was about to launch into a longwinded explanation of how my car was behind hers and there was an SUV behind mine… but suddenly the light dawned, and her face relaxed into a slightly vacant smile as she thanked me.

I think next time I will just wait in my car.

Just a little preoccupied…

So I have not updated in awhile. Or even cleared out my spam comments in awhile. Apologies if you clicked on some pornographic link (although anyone who reads my blog should be used to discussion in that vein by now).

I am truly flattered to find that Jenna, Nicole and Dan have all honored me with a in my absence, because they are some of the people who make me think the most. I am really not sure that I can whittle my remaining list of blogs that make me think down to a mere five. I would be doing the rest of my blogroll a huge injustice, as they are all guilty of making my brain work at one time or another. Even more so, the commenters to my own blog, in particular Larisa and Regina (who can resist a woman who continuously invites one to tell her to fuck off? Heh). But without further ado, I give you:

1. Suz : Writing My Wrongs I love her writing. I love her quotes. I love her frankness. I even love her hairdo. And I love the way she keeps making me re-evaluate my opinions.
2. Kim.Kim’s Reunion Writings She is beautiful in every way, and it is impossible not to be drawn to her. Kim’s gentleness of spirit is something everyone should aspire to. Unfortunately, she closed her blog yesterday.
3. Just Me I find it intriguing to read from the adoptee’s point of view. She is a very honest writer. We all need to hear the truth.
4. Blake at Junkylife Recovering addict. He has been an inspiration to me.
5. Claud : Musings of the Lame Gotta love an activist for getting the brain juices flowing.
